Mrs. M. E. Burkhart [sic] died May 3 at her home in Eldorado, Hamilton County, this state, after an illness of three weeks. Deceased was 50 years old and the wife of F. L. Burkhart. Both were at one time residents of Johnson county. They moved to Hamilton county eighteen years ago. Mrs. Burkhart’s maiden name was Harlow. She leaves no children. Funeral services were held May 5, conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church of that place. At the time of the funeral the husband was lying sick, having been taken ill two days before his wife’s death, and was unable to attend the burial.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Clay Township, Hamilton County, Certificate and Record of Death, page 51 records that Nancy Ellen Burkhart died at about 8 o’clock p. m. on 3 May 1900 at her residence in Carmel from uremia poison [sic] of three days’ duration, caused by quinzy [sic quinsy-peritonsillar abscess] of two weeks’ duration, contributory complication erysipelas, aged fifty-six years, one month and twelve days. She was female, white, married and a housewife, birthplace not given. Her father’s name was Walker Harlow and her mother’s maiden name unknown, birthplaces of both unknown. The informant was Lewis Burkhart. Nancy was buried in Eagle Creek on 6 May 1900, J. J. Bray, undertaker.
