Jesse Woods died Thursday evening of last week [sic] at his home in Greenwood of malarial fever. He leaves a wife and nine children.
Note: The 1900 US Federal Census for Greenwood, Pleasant Township, Johnson County, Indiana, taken 8 Jun 1900, records thirty-nine-year-old, Indiana-born brick molder Jesse W. Wood [sic], his thirty-four-year-old, Kentucky-born wife, Susan W. Wood [sic] and seven of their nine Indiana-born children, fourteen-year-old Grafton, twelve-year-old Ethel, ten-year-old Bessie, eight-year-old Chester, six-year-old Stella, four-year-old Hazel and one-year-old Oren Wood [sic]. Jesse and Susan have been married twenty years. Susan has borne nine children and all are living. Jesse's month and year of birth are recorded as Sep 1860.
Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Greenwood, Pleasant Township, Johnson County, Certificate and Record of Death, Health Officer’s Record Number 53, page 276 records that Jesse Woods died at about 6 o’clock p. m. on 2 Aug 1900 in Greenwood from heart failure caused by typho-malarial fever of three weeks’ duration, aged forty years, eleven months and twenty-eight days, born in Park County, Indiana. He was male, white, married and a brick molder. His father’s name was Jessie Wood [sic], born in Kentucky and his mother’s maiden name Jane Taylor, birthplace unknown. The informant was Charles Carr. Jesse was buried in Greenwood, J. H. Wilson, undertaker.
