Death of Miss Bernice Wiley.
Miss Bernice Wiley, a former popular teacher in the Johnson county schools, died Friday at Tucson, Ariz., where she had gone in hope of regaining her health. News of her death was not unexpected by her many friends and relatives here who have been greatly concerned about her since she went to Arizona.
Bernice Irene Wiley was the daughter of Roland and Esther Wiley and was born at Whiteland Sept. 18, 1894. She graduated from Whiteland high school, attended Miami University, Ohio, Indiana University and Franklin College. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority at Franklin. For three years Miss Wiley taught music, art and domestic science in the Johnson county schools. She was a member of the Whiteland Methodist church. Her beautiful christian life and artistic temperament made her influence for culture, refinement and christianity felt by all with whom she associated, especially the pupils that came under her instruction.
For the past two years she was in failing health. Her mother and sister, Gertrude, were with her at the time of her death. Thoughout her losing battle to regain her health she maintained the most beautiful patience and cheerfulness.
She is survived by her parents, a sister, Gertrude of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, Everett of Greensburg, Guilford of Galesville, Wisc., and Homer of Indianapolis. Two sisters, Minnie and Edna preceded her in death.
Funeral services in charge of the Rev. Ezra Hutchens, her former pastor, assisted by the Rev. J. E. Denny, the local pastor, will be held in the Whiteland M. E. church at 10 o’clock Thursday morning. Burial at Greenwood.
