Alonzo Whalen’s baby died last Tuesday morning and was buried Wednesday at Sprunica church, Brown County. The child was only two days old.
Note: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Birth Index, 1882–1920, referencing Book H-5, page 10, records that a male infant was born to A. W. Whalen and Bertha Wilson on 25 Mar 1900.
Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Trafalgar, Hensley Township, Johnson County, Indiana, page 261, records that Alonzo Whelen [sic] died at 7:30 o’clock on 27 Mar 1900, aged 3 days, in Trafalgar from convulsions. He was male, white, and single, born in Johnson County. His father’s name was A. W. Whelen [sic] and his mother’s maiden name was Martha Rollins [sic] (both born in Indiana). William M. Weils, informant. Burial in Sprunica Cemetery [Brown County] on 28 Mar 1900, undertaker Forsyth & Richardson.
The 1900 US Federal Census for Hensley Township, Johnson County, Indiana, taken on 7 June 1900, records twenty-one-year-old, Indiana-born farm laborer Alonzo Whalen and his nineteen-year-old, Indiana-born wife, Bertha Whalen who have been married two years. Bertha has borne one child who is dead.
