Avery C. West
Avery C. West, 90, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood.
He was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Russell Springs, Ky. His parents were John S. and Neveda (Helms) West. He married Olma (Dunbar) West on Dec. 31, 1927. She preceded him in death Nov. 10, 1976. Survivors include three sons, Jim West of Summerfield, Fla., Art West of Franklin and Robert L. West of Nineveh; two daughters, Wanda Pendleton of Whiteland and Faye Santangelo of Indianapolis; two brothers, Robert V. West of Seminole, Fla., and Earl West of Whiteland; two sisters, Lois Foley of Whiteland and Cora Calvert of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth D. West on April 10, 1949, and Finas G. West on Feb. 18, 2000; and three brothers, A.Z., Clisby and J.C. West.
He was employed by Smart & Perry Ford as a mechanic for 16 years, retiring in 1976.
He loved gardening and feeding birds.d
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
