George Wells Sr. died Monday morning at his home in Edinburg from cancer in the head. He was born near Smiley’s Mill, March 13, 1836. He had been a resident of Edinburg since 1839, his parents moving there in that year. His wife and five children survive, viz: George R., W. D. and Henry C. Wells, Mrs. Daisy D. Farr and Edna L. Wells. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. C. Boone.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Edinburg, Blue River Township, Johnson County, Certificate and Record of Death, page 266 records that George Wells, Sr. died at about 1:20 o’clock a. m. on 7 May 1900 in Edinburg from cancer of one year’s duration, aged sixty-four years, one month and twenty-four days. He was male, white, married and a retired merchant, born in Johnson County. His father’s name was Baker Wells and his mother’s maiden name Pheriba Copland, birthplace of both unknown. The informant was H. E. Wells. George was buried in Edinburg on 9 May 1900, J. M. Breeding, undertaker.
