OBITUARY.

Albert M. Wells was born Feb. 19, 1861, and died Dec. 12, 1898, aged 37 years, 9 months and 23 days.

Albert was a native of Hensley township, born on the old homestead of his father, Rev. Thomas Wells. He at a very early age was a most remarkable boy. As time passed on he grew rapidly and displayed signs of a promising youth. In school he was at all times at the head of his classes and his teachers would place him as the leader in his classes. On the farm he was taught by his father the science of agriculture, and he readily excelled on the farm as in school. He, after completing the common school branches entered school at Valpariso and during two terms was at the head of all his classes. After his second term expired, he came home, his health failing. Again with the dear father he entered into the farm life which proved a successful one. His first term of school was in 1881, and he entered the work with a will and a purpose. He would teach during the winter, and work on the farm during the summer. So a busy life was pleasantly and profitably passing on.

March 13, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Merriman, one worthy of him, and they settled on their farm in Morgan county, where they lived happily and prospered until his death. To them was born one son, Orville Russell, March 16, 1891. This promising little son with the dear wife is left to mourn. But after a few fleeting years this once happy little family will be again united where parting is no more.

His father, Jesse Wells, [Albert’s grandfather] entered in Hensley over 70 years ago, and helped to clear off the heavy timber and convert the broad acres into fields of golden grain. He was one of the old pioneer ministers of the Methodist church, and he with three other brothers proclaimed the unsearchable riches to those who hungered and thirsted for the bread of life.

Albert Wells never united with the church, but during his short life he was a true Christian and continuous in the vineyard of his Master. After a lingering illness from consumption he quietly passed away, but not until he talked to the dear ones of the hope beyond, and with a tender and loving look to the loved ones, the spirit took its flight.
