Strather [sic] Vandivier died at his home two miles west of this city yesterday morning at 9 o’clock, of diabetes, after a lingering illness of many months. He was 78 years old and was among the oldest inhabitants of the county. Mr. Vandivier was one of our prominent democratic farmers and leaves a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his death. The funeral services will be held at the family residence this afternoon at three o’clock and the remains will be interred in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

On May 22d Uncle Strather [sic] Vandivier departed this life after a long and severe illness. The funeral services were conducted at his residence after which his remains were buried at Mt. Pleasant. In his death the church has lost a faithful member, his children a devoted and loving father and the community a much respected and influential citizen as well as a faithful and lifelong democrat.
