Lewis E. Vandivier
Dies At Age Of 76
¶ Lewis E. Vandivier, age 76, one of Johnson county’s most widely known retired farmers, died at 3:30 o’clock Friday morning at his home, 597 West Jefferson street. Although his condition had been regarded as critical only for the past week, he had been in failing health for several years.
Services will be conducted from the First Mt. Pleasant church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, and burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. He had been a member of the church since childhood. Friends are invited to call at the residence at any time.
Mr. Vandivier was born in Union township on Feb. 27, 1865, one of nine children of Isaac and Nancy Jane Hamilton Vandivier. His father had come here from Kentucky. A brother, E. C. Vandivier, living on West Jefferson street, is the last surviving member of the family.
Mr. Vandivier was married to Miss Flora Boles on March 7, 1889. They had two children, both of whom survive with their mother. They are Miss Marcella Vandivier, living at home, and Mrs. Charles Clawson of Martinsville. A grandson, Robert Lewis Clawson, also remains.
He had spent his entire life in Johnson county, and in 1902 he retired from active farming and moved to Franklin. Since that time he had managed his farming interests. Mr. Vandivier had received his education in the schools of Union township and had always taken an active interest in the Mt. Pleasant church.
