OBITUARY.
Meck Vandivier departed this life Jan. 25th, 1883, in the 28th year of his age, at his residence near Greenwood, Ind. Quietly and peacefully he passed away after suffering two weeks with typhoid fever. He was a member of high standing in the Christian Church at Greenwood, and will be greatly missed in the Sunday School, as a scholar and leader in singing. He leaves a loving sister and four brothers and a large circle of relatives and friends to deeply mourn his loss. The funeral services were conducted by Bro. E. L. Frazier, at Mt. Pleasant church, a large crowd of weeping relatives and friends were at the funeral. Brother Meck bore his illness without murmuring, he expressed his regrets on his death bed that he had not done more for the cause of Christ while living, and prayed earnestly that he might be forgiven of all his passed sins and neglect of duty. And as our heavenly Father hears the faintest cry of his children and forgives the penitent, we have the blessed assurance that he is now at rest in peace. A few hours before he died, he sang a part of that sweet song “I am going Home.” Weep not dear friends as those that have no hope. But remember:
Our friend has gone to a mansion of rest,
From a region of sorrow and pain,
To the glorious land of the blest,
Where he will never suffer again.
Sleep on dear friend, thy work is done,
The mortal pain is past.
Jesus has come and borne thee home,
Beyond the stormy blast.
