Ralph Thompson, the ten year old son of Ed Thompson, died Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. His death was due to an [abdominal] abscess caused by injuries from jumping off a hay stack. He had suffered intensely and the attending physicians, as a last resort, had Dr. Eastman of Indianapolis, perform a surgical operation, but without avail.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Franklin, Johnson County, page 246, records that Ralph E Thompson died on 13 Feb 1900 at about 1:30 p. m. at his family’s residence in Franklin, Johnson County, from peritonitis of twelve days duration, immediate cause an abscess of abdomen of three days duration. He was ten years, eleven months and thirteen days old. He was a school boy, born in Johnson County, to T. E. Thompson (born in Kentucky) and Emma C. Canary (born in Indiana). He was buried in Franklin on 15 Feb 1900, undertaker E. G. Barnhizer.
