OBITUARY.

Elsie Kate Gross, daughter of D. S. and Mary Fisher Gross, was born near Needham, Ind., January 17, 1873. She united with the Mt. Zion Methodist church about eight years ago.

Deceased was united in marriage with William Swift, Nov. 13, 1893. In less than three years death had twice entered this home, taking first the babe and then the husband, leaving the wife a frail young widow. Bereft of earth’s dearest ones, she seemed to have but little left for which to live. The home of her childhood received her again and the dear ones there did what they could to make life pleasant for her, but her greatest pleasure was her weekly visits to the silent homes of her dear ones. On one occasion she asked her sisters if they would put flowers on her grave and would they remember too the graves of her loved ones.

A devoted wife, a faithful daughter and a kind and loving sister has been transferred from earth and left in this home a vacancy that cannot be filled, but the Lord knoweth best and this one is now free from pain and bereavement, at rest with her Savior, whom she loved and served. She died after a little more than a week of severe suffering at the home of her parents on the morning of Oct. 2, 1896, age 21 years, 8 months, and 15 days.

The family thus bereft have the sympathy of their many friends in this sad hour. She was known and loved by a large number of relatives and friends who will miss her from the scenes of life, but they sorrow not as for one lost forever for they trust that when the Lord shall claim his own this dear one will be among those who have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb.

Funeral services conducted Sunday, Oct. 4th, at 2d Mt. Pleasant church by Rev. P. O. Duncan, after which we laid her wasted form away by the side of her husband to await the resurrection. The Lord gave; the Lord has taken his own; blessed be His name.
