He was born in a small village near Nowhausen, Thuringia, Prussia, in 1823 and came to Johnson county in 1853 where he has ever since resided and known by all friends and acquaintances as an industrious man and thrifty citizen. Wm. Strohmier, Jr. received the following letter, Tuesday, from V. M. Backus, treasurer of Marion county. It explains itself:
My Dear Friend: Your postal to me duly received. In reply please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your sad loss. I believe Mr. Strohmier was the first man I ever learned to know well and his life was one that was honorable and useful to his fellowmen, and always hard working and thoughtful for his family. I can assure you I deplore your sad loss, but there is another world after this, and we must all expect to go to the beyond from whence no weary traveler returns. My love to yourself and family. V. M. BACKUS.
