Permelia (Penny) C. Straughn, 75, died Tuesday morning at her home in Edinburgh.

She was born July 8, 1911, in Taylorsville to Rowland G. and Arie (Coy) Fordyce.

In 1941, she married Hugh L. Straughn. He died in 1963.

A former organist for the Edinburgh United Methodist Church, Mrs. Straughn was a mem­ber of the church and of the Broadcasters Class. She was also a member of the Edinburgh Senior Citizens and president of the Indiana chapter of the National Executive House­keepers Association.

She had worked in Edinburgh in her father’s store, which was known as Fordyce Grocery, at the Bartholomew County Hospital and LaRue Carter Hospital in Indianapolis. In 1981, she retired from Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home at Knightstown as executive housekeeper.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Edinburgh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Chapman officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m., Thursday, at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

She is survived by two sons, David Straughn, Indianapolis, and Charles A. Straughn, Edin­burgh; a daughter, Penny Tegarden, Edinburgh; a sister, Fata Mae Martines, Downey, Calif., and four grandchildren.

Professional Housekeeper

EDINBURGH — Permelia C. “Penny” Straughn, 75, of Edinburgh, died at 1:30 a.m. today at her home following a long illness.

Mrs. Straughn was a professional housekeeper for institutions, having worked at Bartholomew County Hos­pital and LaRue Carter Hospital in Indianapolis. She retired from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Chil­dren’s Home in Knightstown in 1981. She was a member of National Executive Housekeepers’ Association and was former president of the Indiana Chapter.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Chapman at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Edinburgh United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery there.

Mrs. Straughn was born July 8, 1911, in Taylorsville, the daughter of Rowland G. and Arie Coy Fordyce. She was the widow of Hugh L. Straughn who died in 1963. They were married Nov. 16, 1941.

Mrs. Straughn was former or­ganist and a member of Edinburgh United Methodist Church and Broad­casters Sunday school class. She was a member of Edinburgh Senior Citizens and had worked at Fordyce Grocery Store in Edinburgh.

Surviving include two sons, David Straughn of Indianapolis and Charles A. Straughn of Edinburgh; a daughter, Penny Tegarden of Edin­burgh; a sister, Fata Mae Martines of Downey, Calif. and four grandchil­dren.
