Mrs. Stiltz [sic] died Friday morning and was interred Saturday at Greenwood. Her illness was of six weeks duration. Miss Stiltz [sic] her daughter, is still confined to her bed.

The 1860 US Federal Census for Franklin, Marion County, Indiana records thirty-six-year-old, Indiana-born John Stilts, his twenty-four-year-old, Kentucky-born wife Eliza Stilts, their seven-month-old daughter, Mary V. Stilts, and John’s mother, fifty-four-year-old Mary Stilts.
Indiana Marriages, 1811–2007, database with images, records that, when Mary Violet Stilts married Alva Wilson Gross on 12 May 1908 in Boone County, Indiana, she stated that she was born in Marion County, Indiana on 29 Jan 1860, and that her parents were John Stilts and Eliza Fitzpatrick.
