Amelia, daughter of James and Mary Anderson, was born April 20, 1839, died Jan. 14, 1919 at the age of 79 years 9 months and 16 days. She was born at the same place of her death at which place she spent her entire life, with the exception of about ten years.

Out of a family of twelve children, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Smyser of Edinburg, survives.

She was united in marriage to Harrison Smyser Aug. 28, 1856. To this union was born one son and two daughters, the daughters only living a period of one year.

She was a charter member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church, having first united with the Lick Spring Baptist Church at the age of 19 years.

She is survived by a husband, one son and seven grand­children, and five great-grand­children.

Having been afflicted with asthma since childhood, she has spent most of her life at home, not being able in her later days to attend her church. Her patient endurance of suffering and her quiet gentle manner was evidence of her Christian character to all who knew her. In the words of the Master we can say “She hath done what she could.”

Death of Mrs. Amelia Smyser.

Mrs. Amelia Smyser, wife of Harrison Smyser, died at noon Tuesday, at her home south of the Lick Spring church. Mrs. Smyser had been ill for a number of months and death was due to har­dening of the arteries. Mrs. Smyser would have been eighty years old in March. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson and was born and had always made her home on the farm on which she died. Sixty-two years ago last Au­gust, she and Mr. Smyser were married. On their sixty-first anniver­sary they entertained and received the congratulations of a large circle of friends.

She is survived by her husband and one son, Wm. Smyser, of Nin­eveh. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Sarah Smyser, of Edinburg. Mrs. Smyser was a charter member of the Mt. Carmel church, and was a much loved resident of that com­munity.

The funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o’clock at the Lick Spring church, conducted by the Rev. Homer Eschelman of Trafalgar. Burial at Lick Spring.
