Josephine Smith, the little two-year-old daughter of Frank Smith, died Tuesday night about 1:30 o’clock from congestion of the stomach. Mr. Smith, accompanied by his mother, left last Friday for Pittsburg, taking advantage of the excursion rates during the G.A.R. encampment, to visit relatives. On Saturday following their departure the little child was taken seriously ill with what terminated in congestion of the stomach and resulted fatally. It was impossible to reach Mr. Smith by telegram although repeated efforts were made to do so. He arrived home Wednesday evening. The sudden death of the child and the peculiar circumstances which prevented the father reaching its side before death made the death an especially sad one. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon at three o’clock at the house, conducted by Rev. C. W. Lee.
