Charles Kenneth Smiley, 72, Edinburg route 1, died Monday afternoon at Johnson
County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

He was a member of Hope Moravian Church and was retired from New York Central
Railroad in 1967.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday Eskin Funeral Home in
Edinburg. Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Brown, Glenn Horn, Dean Miller, Charles Morton, Jack
Miller, and Albert Gelfius.

Smiley was born Jan. 17, 1905, in Hope to Russell and Ona Cotner Smiley. He
married Mary Elizabeth McClure in 1926 who died. He then married Marie N. Martin
in 1959 who survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Joan Perritt of Indianapolis; a
stepdaughter, Betty Miller of Edinburg; a stepson, Charles A. Martin of
Columbus; two sisters, Juanita Walton of Edinburg and Madelon Miller of
Columbus; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by two children, Charles O. Smiley and Constance Leffler.
