John H. Smart, age 77 years [sic], died Tuesday evening at his home in Greenwood, after a brief illness from kidney trouble and general debility.

Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Greenwood, Pleasant Township, Johnson County, Certificate and Record of Death, Health Officer’s Record Number 69, page 205 records that John Smart died at about 2 o’clock p. m. on 27 Nov 1900 in Greenwood, Indiana from inanition of 28 days’ duration, contributory cause heptialization of lung [usually caused by lobar pneumonia] of 21 days’ duration, aged seventy-four years, born in Indiana. He was male and white. His father’s name was John Smart, and his mother’s maiden name Sallie Earl, both born in Kentucky. The informant was John Jennings. John was buried in Glenns Cemetery [aka Mount Pleasant Cemetery] on 29 Nov 1900, J. A. Wilson, undertaker.
