Howard Sloan, who has long been in poor health from asthma and comp­lications of lung trouble, died Saturday evening at 6 o’clock at the home of his mother on north Main street. Deceased was a brother of James Sloan and was forty-six years of age. He was never married. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o’clock from the residence, conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Certificate and Record of Death, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana, Health Officer’s Record Number 7, page 228 records that Howard Sloan died from phthisis pulmonalis of one year’s duration at about 6 o’clock p. m. on 10 Mar 1900 at his residence in Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana, aged forty-eight years, born in Franklin, Indiana. He was male, white, single and a printer. His father’s name was Harvey Sloan, his mother’s maiden name was America W. Shackleford, both born in Kentucky. He was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery on 12 Mar 1900, E. G. Barnhizer, undertaker.
