OBITUARY.

As the bud opens into its beauty, and soon passes into the blossom to wither and die, as the fruit ripen and glows in its beauty, it also soon decays and is no more. So in like manner Polly Harris began life April 10, 1839 in Union township, Johnson County, Indiana. At the age of nineteen she married Daniel Simpson, May 18, 1839 [sic 1858 or 1859] in Union township, Johnson count- [sic, missing sentence] four of whom died in infancy. Philander died at the age of twenty, thus leaving but one, Lewis, his wife two sons and two grand children to survive "Aunt Polly." She had been a widow since 1865 and a great yet quiet and patient sufferer for many years. Having lived the true church life, she had that abiding faith in her Savior that He would always care for those who love and trust Him. She first united with the Christian church, afterwards uniting with the M. E. church at Providence.

Thus another, like the ripened fruit, on June 3, 1916, at the age of seventy-seven years, one month and twenty-three days, she passed away. Thus have the pages of history of her life and home closed.

By her passing away some fond loving hearts are grieved. The old rocker she has so long used is vacant, her frail, bent form will be seen no more on earth. For flesh is as grass and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth and the flower therefore fadeth away. Be ye, therefore, ready also for the son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Note: Polly is recorded as Mary Simpson on the 1900 US Federal Census for Union Township, Johnson County, Indiana although she is recorded as Polly in both the 1880 and 1910 US Federal Census for the same place.
