Death of Wm. H. Shuck.
Wm. H. Shuck was born in Switzerland county, Ind., May 23, 1837 and died at Indianapolis March 20, 1897. He was the oldest son of a family of thirteen children of Peter and Emillia Shuck. He came to this county with his parents to this county at an early age and settled in the almost unbroken wilds just west of Hopewell, in which neighborhood he spent the most of his life. David Shuck, of Yankton, S. D., and Mrs. Ruth Gilmer, of Bargersville are the only two children now remaining of this large family. He identified himself with the Hopewell Presbyterian church at sixteen years of age and took an active part in all the services of the church. He served one year as commissioner of this county, which was during the building of the present beautiful Court House. He was never married. He was a staunch believer in the principles of Democracy, though not abusive to those of different political beliefs. He was honored and respected by all who knew him, and he leaves a name behind him that is a monument for truth, honesty and morality. Burial at Hopewell Saturday.
