The 1870 US Federal Census for Hensley, Johnson County, Indiana records twenty-four-year-old, Indiana-born farmer James Shoemaker, his eighteen-year-old Indiana-born wife Susan Shoemaker, and their two-year-old Indiana-born son Walter. The Johnson County Indiana WPA Death Index, 1882–1920, page 184, referencing Book H-17, page 10, records that Jas. Shoemaker, a forty-eight-year-old white male, died 7 Dec 1894 in Indiana.
