John W. Ryker, age 58 years, a well-known and respected citizen of Franklin, died Friday morning at 11 o’clock at his home in west Franklin. He was an old soldier and a member of Wadsworth Post G.A.R. For a long time he had been in failing health, which terminated in lung trouble. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, from the residence conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall, assisted by Dr. W. T. Stott. The pall bearers were members of Co. I, 18th Ind., to which deceased belonged. They were Edward Ditmars, D. D. Waldron, Henry Goodman, Henry Bogart, John Tilson and L. W. Knobe. Burial at Hopewell.

He was a widower and a retired farmer, born in Jefferson County, Indiana. His father’s name was Abram Ryker, birthplace unknown. He was buried in Hopewell Cemetery on 24 Dec 1899, undertaker Covert & Covert.
