The remains of Mrs. Rutherford, who died recently at Howard, Kan., were brought to this city last Saturday. The funeral services took place at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Rutherford was one of the oldest members of that organization, having united with the church in 1829 [member number 49]. After the services, which were conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall, the remains were taken to the Smiley graveyard for burial.

Note: The 1850 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana records fifty-nine-year-old, Virginia-born William Rutherford, his fifty-year-old, Kentucky-born wife Nancy Rutherford and their Indiana-born children, twenty-one-year-old Lydia Ann, sixteen-year-old Samuel, eleven-year-old Nancy E. and seven-year-old William M. Rutherford.
