DEATHS

ARTIMESY RIGGS.

The subject of this notice was born in Henry county, Ky., on the 4th day of February, 1831, and died in Johnson county, Ind., on the 10th day of Jan, 1892. In the year of 1831, she in company with her father and mother, George and Rachel Kerlin, moved from the state of Kentucky to Union township, this county, and she being the oldest of twelve children, bore a goodly portion of caring for and rearing the younger members of the family. She was married to Simeon T. Riggs, by Rev. Asa B. Nay, on the 14th day of January 1847, and was the mother of eight children, four sons and four daughters, one-half of whom have gone to the great beyond, and are waiting that summons, when that great multitude shall be gathered, and the sea shall give up its dead.

About the year 1842, the deceased became a member of Stott’s Creek church, of the “Old School Baptist,” and was baptized by Rev. Asa B. Nay. She continued to hold her membership in this church until her death, and took her departure in the full triumph of a living faith, and in the steadfast belief and confidence that God will not forsake His word, but will bring all things to pass as He has promised. Her sickness began about eleven years since, by an attack of bronchitis, leaving her system in an impaired condition, from which she never fully rallied, finally succumbing to that dread enemy, “Bright’s disease of the kidneys.” In all her afflictions she never complained or murmured at her fate or her sufferings. Her children were all present at the time of her death, except her son David; her eldest son, George, arriving a short time before her death, with whom she freely conversed, concerning her hopes and as to her last resting place. The help-meet and mother has departed, and she will be missed and missed again during the long years of the future, but there will be no returning, they can only go to her.
