EDINBURGH — Merle Ridpath, 87, of Edinburgh, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Todd-Aikens Health Center in Franklin.
Mr. Ridpath retired in 1979 from Arvin Industries in Columbus where he worked for 45 years.
He was a 1931 graduate of Edinburgh High School and a member of Edinburgh United Methodist Church, the church choir and Men’s Gospel Quartet. He had been a barbershop singer for 50 years and was a member of Chordlighters barbershop singers. He also was a member of Edinburgh Masonic Lodge.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron Fritz officiating. Calling will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Edinburgh United Methodist Church.
Mr. Ridpath was born in Indianapolis June 17, 1912, the son of Frank and Estella Coy Ridpath. He married Delphia Stoner Sept. 28, 1935. She died Aug. 17, 1998.
Surviving are nieces, Charlotte Whited of Edinburgh, Mary Pierce of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Sharon Nichols of Middletown, Ohio; and nephews, Carroll Ridpath of Edinburgh, Stephen Ridpath of Sardinia, Ohio, Robert Ridpath of New Richmond, Ohio, and Michael Ridpath of Batavia, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Kenneth, Merrill, and Donald Ridpath.

Merle Ridpath, 87, Edinburgh, died Wednesday at Todd-Aikens Health Center, Franklin.
Born June 17, 1912, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Frank and Estella (Coy) Ridpath. He married Delphia (Stoner) Ridpath on Sept. 28, 1935, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1998.
Mr. Ridpath was employed at Arvin Industries, Columbus, for 45 years. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of Edinburgh High School class of 1931, Edinburgh United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and men’s quartet, Cordlighter’s Barber Shop Singers, 50-year member of barber shop groups and Edinburgh Masonic Lodge 100.
Survivors include three nieces, Charlotte Whited, Edinburgh, Mary Pierce, Williamsburg, Ohio, and Sharon Nichols, Middletown, Ohio; and four nephews, Carroll Ridpath, Edinburgh, Stephen Ridpath, Sardinia, Ohio, Robert Ridpath, New Richmond, Ohio, and Michael Ridpath, Batavia, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
