Alta Marie Redmond, 101, of Taylor Road died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.
She was a French teacher from 1922 to 1967 in Bartholomew County School Corp. She graduated from Columbus High School and cum laude from Franklin College in 1922 with a bachelor of arts degree, receiving high honors in French.
Miss Redmond attended Indiana University and the universities of Wisconsin and Michigan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Delta Zeta Sorority and Alpha Chi Alpha Honorary Sorority at Franklin College and editor of the Franklin College Almanac.
She was a member of Psi Iota Xi, Columbus Senior Center, Delta Kappa Gamma, Honorary Teachers Society and was a volunteer for the Visitors Center.
She was a life member of the local, state and national teachers associations. In 1967, she was the high school prom junior class sponsor for the 34th year.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Four Seasons Chapel with the Revs. Evelyn Brown and Ruth Billington officiating. Calling will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Alta Redmond Scholarship Fund in care of The Heritage Fund.

Born in Franklin Dec. 8, 1900, Miss Redmond was the daughter of Jesse King and Carrie Odessa Redmond.
She is survived by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Redmond, and a brother, Harold Redmond.
