The remains of Ira Powell, son of John Powell, were brought here last Saturday for burial. He was a brakeman on the Missouri Pacific Railroad and while breaking a switch at Nevada City, Mo., Thursday, July 21, slipped and fell across the track. The engine and two cars ran across his body causing instant death. He had been in the railroad service for six years and was 27 years of age at the time of his death. He had written to his mother the day before saying he was making his last trip as he intended to resign and come home. He was a member of Nevada Lodge No. 365, Brotherhood of R. R. Trainman. S. H. Goodwin and A. J. Mayers; members of the lodge, accompanied the remains to this city where they were joined by members from the Indianapolis Lodge. These were Jerry Kelley, W. G. Ela, W. H. Allen, M. Turner, F. N. Washburn, Omer C. Zion and Charles Henry, who conducted an impressive funeral ceremony in accordance with their ritual. The parents and other relatives of the deceased have the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends in this peculiarly sad affliction.
