In Memoriam.
To pay a tribute of respect to our loved and lost is always a painful pleasure, yet as God in His wisdom has called one more of our dear one’s home, we would not speak a few words sacred to the memory of Myrtle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Woods of Morgantown, who died at the age of twenty-three years, nine months and 25 days, after a lingering illness of one year of consumption, at her home in Needham, Saturday, January 23, 1897.
Myrtle was ever a kind hearted, pleasant lady and her winning words and pleasant face will long be remembered by those whose pleasure it was to know her. Her mission during the short life she was permitted to live among us, was to scatter deeds of kindness and words of cheer. Early in life she gave her heart to Christ and united with the M. E. church near the home of her parents in Morgantown. Though of short duration, her life bears the marks of a true Christian. Although it was her lot to suffer, yet she bore all without complaining.
Deceased was united in marriage with Dr. I. H. Phipps, August 7, 1895.
A devoted wife, a faithful daughter and a kind and loving sister has been transferred from earth and left in this home a vacancy that cannot be filled but the Lord knoweth best and this one is now free from pain at rest with her Savior whom she loved and served.
The husband and family thus bereft have the sympathy of their many friends in this sad hour. She was known and loved by a large number of relatives and friends who will miss her from the scenes of life, but they sorrow not as for one lost forever, for they trust that when the Lord shall claim his own this dear one will be among those who have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb.
Funeral services conducted Sunday, January 24, at the M. E. church at Morgantown, by Rev. P. O. Duncan. Burial at the Morgantown cemetery.
Emma and Ethel Gross.
