John Parsons, son of T. J. Parsons, died suddenly Sunday morning about two o’clock from hemorrhage of the lungs. For several years he was employed as one of the compositors on the Democrat and was always found punctual and faithful in the performance of every duty. About eighteen months ago he was compelled to quit work on account of lung trouble but at different times since then his health had apparently revived but each time there would come a relapse. For several days before his death he had been doing light work at the canning factory and was on the street as late as ten o’clock Saturday evening. To several he had expressed himself that day as feeling better than for some time. After returning home and retiring he was aroused by an oppressive feeling which proved to be the forerunner of the fatal hemorrhage. He was twenty-seven years of age, an industrious, hard-working young man while in health, and had a large circle of friends. He was a delegate to the recent congressional convention at Columbus. For several years he was a member of the Franklin band and gave up his membership only when failing health compelled him to do so. The band participated in the funeral services which occurred Tuesday at ten o’clock, conducted by Elder Amzi Atwater, of the Christian church. Burial at Greenlawn.
The 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana records 13-year-old John W Parsons, born in Kentucky as living in the household of his parents, Thomas J. and Martha Parsons.
