In Remembrance.

Milly Fisher was born in Roan [sic] County, N.C., Feb. 22, 1810. She was a daughter of Geo. and Catherine Fisher. George Fisher and family emigrated to what is now Clark Co., Ind. in the year 1815. April 15th, 1828, Milly Fisher and Samuel Owens were married, and in the autumn of the same year they located in Johnson County on the farm now occupied by John Owens. Here they lived bearing the burdens of a pioneer life until the year 1846, when death crossed the threshold of this home and claimed the husband and father.

Ten children were born to them, six of whom are living and today mourn the loss of an aged mother. For almost fifty years she lived a widow and for many years made her home with the youngest son, Wm. Owens, at whose residence she quietly fell asleep on the afternoon of Feb. 21, 1896, lacking only till the dawn of another day of reaching the advanced age of 86 years. April 1st, 1838, she united with the Second Mt. Pleasant church and was baptized by Elder Benjamin Reece, and ever after lived a quiet, consistent, Christian life.

For many years she has been in feeble health, and many times was deprived of church privileges and enjoyment, but today she enjoys the rest prepared for the redeemed of the Lord.

Of her descendants there have been ten children, forty-seven grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. Of this number six children, twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren together with two aged sisters, one in her 91st years, are left, but we believe she has been gathered home and awaits our coming. Funeral services were held at Second Mt. Pleasant church, Sunday, Feb. 23rd, and were conducted by Rev. P. O. Duncan and Dr. W. T. Stott, of the college. Dr. Stott used as a text for the occasion, “If a man died, shall he live again?” Then her wasted form was carried out by six grandsons and laid in our city of the dead to await the resurrection morn.

JANA OWENS.
