Mrs. Sallie [sic] Mourhouse [sic], an aged lady, died at her home in this city, Friday. The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Burial in Greenlawn cemetery.

Note: Nellie Moorhouse is of Dutch origin. Her name on the New Orleans Passenger List Quarterly Abstracts, 1820-1875 is Neltge Moorhaus. She and her husband Hermann Berd Moorhaus arrived in the Port of New Orleans on the Westphalia from Bremen, Germany on 7 Jan 1845 with the stated intention of living in the United States. In the 1850 US Census Netty and Herman Morehous are living in Jefferson County, Indiana. Harman [sic] and Neltge Moorehouse are living in Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana in 1860 per the US Federal Census. The 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana records her name as Nalia and her husband’s name as Hermann. The 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin gives another version of Neltge’s name, Nelley, and the WPA Death Index records her as Nellie. Her name was never Sallie.
