Margaret E. Ellis was born at New Haven, Ohio, and in early life moved to Rushville, Ind., where she grew up to womanhood and was married to Eli Babb. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters, only one of whom is now living, viz.; Mrs. F. N. Whitesides of this city. Her second marriage, June 23, 1872, was to James H. Moody, then proprietor of the Rushville Jacksonian. They came to Franklin in the year 1876 where they have ever since resided. Mrs. Moody’s sickness dates back over three years during which time she was almost a constant sufferer. She fought bravely against the disease that gradually but surely undermined her health and exhausted her strength, and cherished the hope until a few weeks ago that she might be able to live to see her two children, Ethelbert and Clara, grow up into manhood and womanhood. About two months before her death she became convinced that she could not live. She freely talked of the approaching end to her husband and friends and manifested such serenity of mind and peaceful resignation as to deeply touch and impress those administering to her wants. She received every attention that kind and loving friends could bestow. Gentleness and patience marked all her suffering and consciousness departed only with the last breath. Death came a few minutes past five o’clock Tuesday morning. Mrs. Moody was a member of the Presbyterian church and always lived an exemplary Christian life. She had a large circle of relatives and friends who loved her and will ever cherish her memory in their hearts. The funeral occurred Wednesday evening at four o’clock from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. F. N. Whitesides and conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall.
