Mrs. Sophia Middleton, aged 63 years, wife of James Middleton, died early Saturday morning after a brief illness of lung fever at her home in east Franklin. She leaves a husband and seven children, five sons and two daughters. Funeral services took place Monday morning at ten o’clock from the residence, conducted by Rev. John C. Miller. Burial at Greenlawn.

The Johnson County Indiana WPA Death Index, 1882–1920, page 127, referencing Book H-18, page 6, records that Sophia Midelton [sic], a sixty-year-old white female, died 22 Jan 1897 in Franklin.
