DEATHS.

COLUMBUS McDANIEL.
––––
About nine o’clock Saturday morning the news spread rapidly among citizens on the street that “Lum” McDaniel had dropped dead at the mill. He had risen that morning in his usual health, eaten his breakfast and gone to work. He was absent from the mill but a few minutes when his brother, C. W. McDaniel, found him lying in an unconscious state in an adjoining building. He was carried into the mill but drew but a few breaths and expired. The deceased was a man of exemplary habits, industrious, of good business qualifications, and possessed the confidence and respect of the entire community. He was never heard to complain and his sudden death was all the greater surprise in consequence. A postmortem examination held Sunday at the home of his brother, C. W. McDaniel, showed that death was the result of paralysis of the heart. The valves were unusually thick and hardened, a bony substance had formed near them, and the muscular walls of the left ventricle were abnormally large, making the entire organ nearly one-third larger than ordinarily. The postmortem was held under the direction of Coroner Whitesides, the operating being done by Dr. T. C. Donnell, assisted by Dr. H. J. Hall. Drs. Carl Payne, Wood, Covert and Jones were also present. The deceased was thirty-three years old and leaves a wife and two children. The funeral occurred Monday morning at ten o’clock, conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall, assisted by Rev. E. H. Woods.
