Jacob F. McClellan Dead.
Jacob F. McClellan, one of the oldest and best known residents of this city, died at his home on East King street Tuesday morning shortly before 8 o’clock, after an illness of several weeks. He was 74 years and 10 months of age.
Deceased was born in Trimble county, Ky., May 20, 1820 and moved to this county with his father in 1832, and in 1837 became a resident of this city and has lived here ever since excepting one year spent in Illinois shortly after his marriage and one year in Louisville, Ky.
He was married to Miss Nancy Johnson, in Gibson county, this state, on the 20th day of October, 1843. To this union was born seven sons and one daughter. Two of the sons died many years ago and the wife and mother died on the 6th day of June 1890.
Mr. McClellan had held many positions of trust and responsibility in this county, among which might be mentioned that of township trustee, deputy sheriff, deputy recorder, and treasurer of Johnson county from 1856 to 1861, all of which positions he filled to the satisfaction of all citizens.
Deceased was the son of Wm. and Rachel McClellan who reared a family of ten children, three of whom survive, H. L. McClellan, of Indianapolis, Geo. W. McClellan, of Greenwood, and Mrs. Gideon Johnson, of Whiteland.
The funeral took place at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon from the family residence the services being conducted by Prof. C. H. Hall.
