FRANKLIN James David Kowalski James David Kowalski, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at his residence in Franklin. He was former longtime resi- dent of South Bend. He was born April 6, 1934, in South Bend. His parents were Leon E. and Benedictine (Paskiet) Kowalski. He married Shirley A. Phillips on Dec. 18, 1992, in South Bend. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Micinski of Branch, Mich., and Elizabeth Ann Camp of Elkhart; two sons, Phillip James Kowalski of Buchanan, Mich., and James David Kowalski Jr. of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Kimberly S. Hood of Franklin; a sister, Roberta V. Hill of Three Oaks, Mich.; a brother, Leon E. Kowalski Jr. of Mendi- cino, Calif.; and six grand- children. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Kowalski. He was a 1952 graduate of South Bend Central High School and a 1957 graduate of Frank- lin College. He owned and was president of Maxi-Blast Inc. in South Bend; Econo-Blast of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Aero-Blast Products Inc. in Cincinnati; Hardscrabble Inc. in Indiana, Ohio and Florida; South Bend, retiring in 2000. He served as a second lieutenant in the Indiana National Guard. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin, Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, Indiana University President’s Circle, Franklin College Board of Trustees, Morris Park Country Club in South Bend, Hillview Country Club in Franklin, Passe- A-Grille Yacht Club in St. Pete Beach, Fla., Notre Dame University Club, Isaac Walton League in South Bend, Franklin Elks Lodge 1818, Society of Automotive Engineers, American Chemical Society, Society of the Plastic Industry, Society of Plastic Engineers, Indiana Chamber of Commerce, South Bend Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Michiana Small Business Council, Michiana Busi- ness Venture Group, Michiana Arts and Science Council and Michiana World Trade Club. He was an also an adviser for the School of Business at Indiana University at South Bend. He established a scholarship for business in the name of James D. and Shirley Kowalski at Indiana University at South Bend and Franklin College. The Rev. Paul M. Shikany will conduct a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanis- laus Catholic Church at 415 N. Brook- field in South Bend. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to Johnson County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 217, 398 S.
