The death of Miss Hattie [sic] LaVielle, daughter of the late Dr. H., and H. L. Kerne [sic], occurred in Franklin, Ind., Saturday June 18th 1892. Seldom has the death of a young lady created a deeper impression. Miss Kerne [sic] was possessed of bright faculties, which had been enriched by a liberal education and by varied accomplishments. As a pianist, especially, she excelled. Her kindness of heart, buoyancy of spirit, and sympathetic nature, made her a charming addition to society circles. She was a universal favorite. In the home, her considerate devotion was the great solace of her widowed mother. For two years she has been an invalid, and a great sufferer; yet her patience never gave way, and cheerful words and pleasing smiles greeted all who visited her. A lovely Christian faith ripened throughout all her afflictions; sustaining her and comforting the hearts of those who loved her. She was a communicant of the Protestant Episcopal church. Her death was as peaceful as her life had been tranquil. The funeral occurred from her mother’s home Monday, at 5 p.m., Rev. Leon P. Marshall, of First Presbyterian church, officiating.
