OBITUARY
––––––––
Wesley Kephart was born in Kentucky, Nov. 26, 1820. Died Jan 14, 1906, aged 85 years, 1 month and 18 days. He leaves to mourn their loss, two sons James and William, three daughters, Mary Anna Leach, Christina Carnine, and Manda Jane Stivers. Sarah M. died many years ago. Besides these there are 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of sorrowing friends, who mourn with the bereaved family. He became a Christian while a young man, having joined the Missionary Baptist church shortly after his moving to Johnson county, in the faith he always remained steadfast and true. In his living he was a plain, honest unassuming man whose integrity was above reproach. His only ambition was to serve God and his fellow man and in these no life was more exemplified in his daily conduct than his. In his home, his largeness of heart, and his rich Christian life were no less manifest, an ideal husband and father.
Wesley Kephart and Susan Moore were married May 8, 1851. He was truly a pioneer. He witnessed the material advancement of his community with pleasure always. Encouraging youth and worthy ambition by espousing the cause of mortality and education. Uncle Wes is gone.
His counsel to his family and friends will be missed. He has borne his afflictions with great fortitude, he has lived the faith, he has fought the fight, and goes with his burdens unto Him who will say, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord.”
Uncle Wes, 54 years ago took to himself, a pioneer’s daughter and during their married life they have witnessed the great change from early hardships and privations in the lowly hut to the present comforts of civilization. Toiling and rejoicing in the humble home he lived long and happily with his dear companion and children.
