Death of Mrs. Sarah A. Jones.
Sarah Ann Vandivier, daughter of James and Barbara Vandivier, was born in Mercer county, Ky., June 14, 1831; married to David P. Jones April 2, 1851, and died Sept. 20, 1896. Deceased was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive her. She united with the First Mt. Pleasant missionary Baptist church of this county in 1856, of which she remained a member until her death. She was a most estimable lady, and will be remembered by many for her Christian character and personal worth, and her death deeply regretted by relatives and friends. To the sorrowing friends, the following couplet is dedicated:
Be still, sad heart! Oh cease thy vain
regretting,
For He who smitest thee still knoweth
what is best,
How oft would ye recall the loved, for-
getting
That she with Jesus is forevermore at
rest.
Oh blessed day when first upon her
Saviour
With faith, and hope, and love she “fixed
her happy choice,”
Who walked with her e’en through the vale
and shadow
And in whose presence she will evermore
rejoice.
Mrs. Olive Byers
