Uzal Johnson

Uzal Johnson, 83, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at Franklin United
Methodist Community. He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of
Bedford and Shelbyville.

He was born June 22, 1918, in Morristown. His parents were John L. and Agnes
Cora (Pitts) Johnson. He married Dorothy Lackey Kloene on Dec. 4, 1938. She
preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2000. Survivors include a son, John W. Johnson of
Franklin; a daughter, Jennifer E. Kimbley of Mitchell; a grandson; a
great-grandson; three nieces; and special friends, Stuart and Ann Burton of
Bedford. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalyn Johnson Cravens.

He was a 1936 graduate of Shelbyville High School and attended Purdue
University.

He was a plant manager for National Farm Machinery in Shelbyville from 1946 to
1951. He was a purchasing agent for General Motors Central Foundry in Bedford
from 1952 to 1981 and was a metals broker and consultant for several companies
including Mica Metals for Lester B. Knight and Minerals Processing, supervising
the building of a plant in Messina, N.Y. He retired in 1996.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Bedford. He served on the board of
directors for the Hoosier Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America and on the
building committee for Camp Maumee Boy Scout Camp. He was a life member of
American Legion Gillen Post 33 and Bedford BPOE 826.

He was a U.S Army veteran of World War II, serving in Epinal, France, as a
second lieutenant in charge of the American servicemen’s cemetery.

The Rev. John Eley will conduct a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wright
Memorial Chapel at the Franklin United Methodist Community. The family will
receive guests immediately following the service. Friends may also call from 2
to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hauk-Spencer Mortuary in Morristown, with graveside
services following in Hanover Cemetery. Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin
is handling local arrangements.
