OBITUARY.
The following notice of the death of a former resident of this county, is taken from the Kansas Populist, published at Independence, Kansas:
On January 26, 1899, Angie, wife of O. H. Hunter died at their home in Rutland township, aged 45 years 9 months and 3 days. She had been a constant sufferer for the past three years with asthma. Her last illness consisting of a complication of diseases lasted about four weeks. The suffering was borne patiently to the last. Fully trusting, she called pleadingly to Jesus to come quickly and relieve her suffering. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.” Angie Green Hunter was born near Trafalgar, Johnson county, Indiana, April 23d, 1853. She grew to womanhood there and was united in marriage with O. H. Hunter, Sept. 30, 1869. In February 1875, they left Indiana and came to Montgomery county, Kansas, full of hope for a bright future. In October of the same year they located on their farm nine miles west of Independence. To them were born three daughters—Ollie, Amy and Nellie—the first and last named preceded the mother to the heaven of rest. Angie was converted and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist church at Trafalgar, Ind., at about the age of twelve and had lived a devout Christian ever since.
The funeral services were held at the Providence Christian church, conducted by Rev. Drake, of the Independence Baptist church.
Interment took place at Mt. Hope cemetery. The deceased had marked in the family bible, for her funeral text: Hebrew 4:9. “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.” Blessed thought! Rest from the toils and afflictions of this life, if we are faithful to the end.
