Death of Joseph Hughes.
Joseph Hughes, trustee of Nineveh township, died Monday morning at his residence, east of Nineveh, of Bright’s disease. Mr. Hughes had been in poor health for more than six months and had spent several weeks at Martinsville the past summer seeking medical relief. His friends, while advised of the seriousness of his illness, yet did not look for so sudden a termination.
Mr. Hughes was elected trustee in 1894 and has made during his term of office an admirable trustee. The township affairs were managed with the utmost care and always with economy. His reports were always accurate and showed an excellent condition of the township’s finances. In fact he was a model officer.
Deceased lacked but two days of being forty-nine years of age [sic]. He leaves a wife and no children. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock conducted by Rev. John C. Miller. Burial at Nineveh. The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives and friends.
In the untimely death of Mr. Hughes, the township and county lose a good citizen.
