HOUGHAM, Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Pritchard)
Date of death: 16 Mar 1888
Franklin Republican, Friday, May 11, 1888
Mrs. Lizzie Hougham, wife of Edward Hougham, died March 16th 1888. She was the daughter of L. G. Pritchard.
Years of unbroken friendship have bound me to this family, and I wish to say a word here about Lizzie, who was one of my children in the Gospel. Their hospitality I have often enjoyed. I have slept under their roof and oft refreshed body and spirit at their table and in their company.
Lizzie was born October 5th, 1862. When she was fourteen years old she confessed the Christ and I baptized her March 27th, 1876. On the 18th of October, 1882, a happy company gathered at her father’s home to witness the marital vows between her and Edward Hougham. I officiated then and blessed their union. Six short years she lived with her husband has left him and their little boy grieving for wife and mother.
About a year ago Lizzie’s mother died. She had been a faithful and life long follower of Jesus. One by one we go and the company on the other side is constantly increasing. Christians sorrow not as others who have no hope. Walking by the light of our Bible and believing its precious promises, we are comforted, knowing it is well with them, for they enter into rest, and we hope to meet them again.
Farewell is a word of sadness,
Spoken over the new made mound
“We’ll meet again,” a word of gladness,
Meet where no graves are found.
