OBITUARY.
Sarah E. Herod died at her home in West Franklin Monday morning at four o’clock, age 21 years and 11 months. The deceased had been a constant sufferer for the past eight months of that dreadful disease, consumption. She bore her suffering without a murmur, always looking on the bright side and smiling on the faces of those she would meet. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Wolfington assisted by J. M. Denton of Morgantown at the Bethlehem church. The text for the ceremony was taken from the fifty-first verse of the 6th chapter of St. John. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.
Sarah E. Herod, daughter of Thos. W. and Amanda Shephard Herod, was born in Boone county, Ind., March 14th, 1871 and made a public confession of her faith in the Lord to the Bethlehem church of the Regular Presdestinarian Baptists on the 4th Saturday in July, 1889.
Sister thou wast mild and lovely,
Gentle as the summer breeze,
Pleasant as the air of evening,
As it floats among the trees.
Dearest daughter thou hast left us
E’er the loss we deeply feel,
But ‘tis God that hast bereft us
He can all our sorrows heal.
Peaceful be thy silent slumber
Peaceful in the grave so low;
Thou no more shall join our number
Thou no more our songs shall know.
Yet, again we hope to meet thee
Where the spark of life is fled,
And in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tears are shed.
