Former Johnson County Councilman dies

  Ray Farmer Hendricks, 76, a former
Johnson County councilman, died early
Saturday morning at Methodist Hospital
in Indianapolis where he was admitted
late Friday evening.
  Mr. Hendricks was councilman-at-large
from 1970 to 1980. Active in the Johnson
County Republican party, he led the
ticket in 1976.
  He was appointed as Johnson County
building administrator in 1962, and
served for eight years.
  Mr. Hendricks was a member of the
Johnson County Mental Health Board and
was a director of the Johnson County
Historical Society.
  He was an elder, deacon and trustee in
the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, a
member of Union Village Masonic Lodge
545, charter member of the Bargersville
Community Club and a charter member
and 25 year member of the Bargersville
Volunteer Fire Department where he
served as chaplain. He was also a
director of the Bargersville Senior Citi-
zens club.
  Mr. Hendricks was born Aug. 20,
1905, in Needham Township, Johnson
County, to Otto L. and Mabelle (Farmer)
Hendricks. He married Mary Jane Math-
ena, Sept. 1,1926, and she survives.
  He was a 1923 graduate of Franklin
High School.
  A retired woodworker, Mr. Hendricks
owned and operated Ray F. Hendricks
Plumbing and Heating and Cabinet Build-
ing for many years.
  The Revs. Harrison Neal and James
Schaffer will conduct a service at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at the Hopewell Presbyterian
Church where the body will lie in state
one hour before the service.
  Friends may call after 2 p.m. today
and until noon Tuesday at Vandivier-
Tudor Bargersville Chapel. Burial will be
at Hopewell Cemetery.
  A Masonic memorial service will be
held at the funeral home at 8:30 tonight.
  Other survivors include a son, Donald
Ray Hendricks, Greenwood route three;
a brother, Lowell Wayne Hendricks, Co-
lumbus; a half sister, Juanita Day, North
Vernon, and a half brother, Otto Hend-
ricks Jr., also of North Vernon.
  Two grandchildren, two great-grand-
children and eight nephews also survive.
