Mrs. Joshua Henderson died at her home in Amity last Saturday morning of consumption. She leaves a husband, several children and many friends to mourn the death of a most estimable lady. The funeral took place Sunday and the remains were buried at the Smiley Mill Cemetery.

The 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana records thirty-five-year-old, North Carolina-born Joshua Henderson, his twenty-seven-year-old, Indiana-born wife Persilla [sic] Henderson, their Indiana-born children, eight-year-old Hattie, six-year-old Martin, and two-year-old Travis, and Joshua’s mother, sixty-five-year-old, North Carolina-born Leah Henderson.
