John Heffran, a young man living near Greenwood, was run over Wednesday night of last week by a local freight train on which he was stealing a ride. He was struck by a projection over the track at the stockyards and knocked under the wheels, the train passing over his left arm and leg. Besides these amputations he received other injuries which resulted in his death shortly after midnight. The accident occurred near the depot and was witnessed by a large crowd of people, who were waiting for the arrival of the evening trains. Heffran was sixteen years of age and a son of Peter Heffran.
