SEBIRD HARTER.
The dark angel of death has again visited our community and taken from us an old pioneer. On Sunday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 o’clock, Uncle Sebird [sic] Harter died. He was born in Preble county, Ohio, in 1818. To his first marriage one son was born, who still survives. In 1849 he was married to Nettie N. Ashley, at Taylorsville, to which union nine children were born, seven of whom are living. In 1851 Mr. Harter joined the Young’s Creek Christian church, and continued a consistent member until his death. Although he was totally blind for twenty years, he bore his misfortune with patience and fortitude—always cheerful and fine and forgiving. His was a familiar figure in political campaigns when he headed many a drum corps and with his faithful fife aroused enthusiasm, wherever he went. “Uncle Sebe” will be greatly missed in the community. His memory will be long cherished.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, conducted by Elder Freeman, of Bartholomew county. Burial in the beautiful cemetery at Union.
